Video Features Bay State’s Two Medal of Honor Recipients Endorsing Scott Brown
BOSTON - In honor of Memorial Day, the Brown campaign today launched a new web video, called “He’s One Of Us.” The video features Scott Brown receiving the endorsement of both of the Bay State’s two living Medal of Honor recipients, retired U.S. Navy Captain Thomas J. Hudner Jr. and retired U.S. Navy Captain Thomas G. Kelley.
“I am incredibly honored to receive the endorsement of Captain Tom Hudner and Captain Tom Kelley, American heroes not just for their extraordinary valor in combat but also for their service to veterans,” said Senator Brown. “I am humbled to know that they think well enough of me to put their sterling names and reputations in support of my re-election bid.”

Captain Tom Hudner, of Concord, is a Korean War veteran who earned our nation’s top military honor in 1950. A naval aviator, he intentionally crash landed his own plane in inhospitable terrain in order to aid his wingman, ensign Jesse Brown, who had been downed by enemy fire. Although Brown did not survive the rescue attempt, Captain Hudner’s act of bravery and selflessness lives on in the annals of U.S. military history.
Captain Tom Kelley, of Boston, is a Vietnam War veteran who earned the Medal of Honor for extraordinary bravery following an attack on a convoy he was leading in South Vietnam. Despite receiving a serious head injury and unable to stand from the blast of an enemy rocket, Kelley retained command of the situation and ably guided those alongside him to safety, saving their lives.

TOM HUDNER: ”My name is Tom Hudner. I’m a retired Navy Captain, and a recipient of the Medal of Honor. And I support Scott Brown for Senator.”
TOM KELLEY: ”I am retired Navy Captain Tom Kelley. A Vietnam veteran, Medal of Honor recipient, and an un-enrolled voter. I’m supporting Scott Brown.”
HUDNER: ”I first met Scott Brown when he was starting his run for Senator several years ago, and the more I see of Scott, the more I’m convinced that not only is he a very capable legislator, but he shares the same ideas that I do.”
KELLEY: ”I got to know Scott about a dozen years ago in my role as Commissioner of Veteran Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and Scott was a member of the legislature. In that role, I could always count on him to do the right thing for veterans.”
HUDNER: ”I’m proud to be supporting Scott. He co-sponsored legislation to provide support for homeless veterans. Homeless veterans is a very serious issue.”
KELLEY: ”As a veteran and as a Massachusetts resident I am particularly happy that Scott Brown is member of the Senate Armed Services committee because this puts him in a position to not only recognize the issues facing returning veterans and their families, but also to take some solid action on their behalf.”
HUDNER: ”I feel he is one of us. If we were together he would be recognized as being a leader.”
