BOSTON - The Scott Brown for U.S. Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of two more local leaders: former Democratic State Representative Anthony Verga and Independent City Councilor Sefatia Romeo Theken, both of Gloucester.
“I am honored these leaders are willing to reach across the aisle to support my campaign,” said Senator Brown. “We’re Americans first, and I will continue to work across the aisle to advance policies that create economic growth and put people back to work.”
“Scott and I worked closely on a range of important issues when we served together and I can tell you that he approaches each challenge with an open mind and an eye toward problem solving,” said Verga, who served in the state legislature from 1995 to 2009. “Scott is an independent-minded person, not a partisan rock thrower. In my opinion, the partisan bickering in Washington has resulted in gridlock that has hurt oureconomy. We need reasonable voices like Scott’s in Washington to vote the right way and get our economy humming again.”
”I don’t believe in the party, I believe in the person,” said Councilor Sefatia Romeo Theken. “After Scott was elected, he got up to speed very quickly on the issues facing this community – from speaking out against overregulation by NOAA to helping small and seasonal businesses in Gloucester and the North Shore deal with loopholes in new health care regulations. He’s been a great partner for us and he deserves to be elected to a full term in the U.S. Senate.”
Verga and Theken join a growing list of Democrats and independents who have endorsed Senator Brown, including:
Ray Flynn, former Democratic Mayor of Boston
Konnie Lukes, former Democratic Mayor of Worcester
Arthur Broadhurst, former Democratic State Representative from Methuen
Geoff Hall, former Democratic State Representative from Westford
Marie Parente, former Democratic State Representative from Milford
Robert Antonioni, former Democratic State Senator from Leominster
Dean Mazzarella, Independent Mayor of Leominster
