BROWN PUSHES FOR TREES TO BE TAX EXEMPT IN RECOGNITION OF ARBOR DAY
BOSTON, MA - State Senator Scott Brown has filed legislation to promote the purchase and planting of trees during the week of Arbor Day. Brown’s bill will add the sale of trees during the last week of April to the list of items that are exempt from the state sales tax. This legislation is an incentive to renew our forests and green space, as well as encourage the further beautification of our communities.
“Our green spaces may well be our most precious resource,” state Senator Brown. “They not only add beauty to our neighborhoods and communities, but they filter pollutants from our air, reduce greenhouse gases, help prevent floods, and reduce heat. If this passes, I am hopeful that people will take advantage of this tax break and plant more trees.”
