BROWN PUSHES FOR GAS TAX DEDUCTIONS
BOSTON, MA – In recognition of gasoline prices soaring quickly to a record high of $4 a gallon, State Senator Scott Brown proposed legislation to create a commuter tax deduction of up to $3,000 to provide relief for the costs of traveling to a place of employment or education. The deduction could provide as much as $159 in tax relief for commuting costs in excess of $1,500.
“With gas prices in Massachusetts skyrocketing by more than 75 percent since January 2007, we are looking for ways to relieve the pressure on drivers who are suffering sticker shock every time they go to the gas pump,” said Senator Brown. “This is a common-sense and timely solution that will help more employees get to work without breaking the bank.”
