Internships
Internships for high school graduates, college students and recent
college graduates are available
during the fall, spring and summer semesters. High school students
are also welcome to apply for summer internships.
Internship Format
Scheduling is flexible; interns can serve for as little as 6 hours or as much as 40 hours each week. During the summer the legislature hosts a speaking series for interns. General intern duties include drafting constituent correspondence, researching legislation, and compiling news clips. Interns will be given flexibility to focus on a subject of interest, such as health care, or a skill area, such as communications. Internships are unpaid, but they present a great opportunity to learn about state government and we will work with students to gain credit where applicable.
About
our Office
We are a small office with 4 full-time staff members who together handle a variety of issues. We depend on interns to help our office move smoothly. As interns get to know our office and how it operates, they become an integral part of our team. Past interns have even played a key role in drafting legislation. Although Senator Brown has only been in the Senate a short time, we have moved aggressively to address a number of issues. Reform of the sex offender system has become a major topic of interest for our office after a constituent issue brought to light the major flaws in the current system. We are pursuing legislation in a number of different areas, but our emphasis generally falls on public safety and government reform, in addition to local and constituent issues.
