BROWN TOURS LOCAL VETS SHELTER
BOSTON MA - State Senator Scott Brown, the ranking republican of the Legislatures Veterans and Federal Affairs Committee, recently toured the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans in order to foster a better understanding of the problems facing Massachusetts homeless veterans. While at the shelter, Brown met with President and CEO, Laurence D. Fitzmaurice to discuss the financial picture for the shelter, effective programs for homeless veterans, and renewed interest by the public in recognizing the service of our nation's veterans.
Sen. Brown was shown the shelter’s residential program which consist of a three-tiered program from Cot Squads to Transitional Housing and Single Room Occupancy. He also learned more about the supportive services such as Education and Employment, and Health Care and Financial/Legal Services to its veterans.
The New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans extends a helping hand to homeless men and women veterans who are addressing the challenges of addiction, trauma, severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unemployment and who will commit themselves to sobriety, non-violence, and working for personal change.
In addition, Sen. Brown is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Veterans Issues and a recent appointee to a Special Commission to Study the Effects of War on Returning Massachusetts Service Members.
Brown is also a 28 year member of the MA National Guard, where he holds the rank of Lt. Colonel.
