BROWN TO RUN FOR THIRD TERM

WRENTHAM, MA - Today State Senator Scott Brown declared that he will be a candidate for re-election to the State Senate from the Norfolk, Bristol & Middlesex District.

"Though this is an uncertain time in our country and our state, I am committed to creating and keeping good jobs in our region, funding and strengthening our schools, and making Massachusetts a safe and affordable place for all of our residents to call home," said Brown.

Citing his efforts to reform and streamline government and the need to return more money to towns through local aid and education funding, Brown announced that he is eager to address the many challenges before the Commonwealth.

"Senator Brown is an integral part of the Republican Caucus and the Senate as a whole, Said Senator Richard Tisei (R-Wakefield). He brings a vast amount of experience and leadership to the legislative process on a wide variety of issues."

"It is an honor to represent the people of this district. We have accomplished a lot in the past four years, but we have so much more to do. I am proud of the bipartisan, common sense work we have done in the Senate, and I look forward to continuing to work on the many issues that the people of my district truly care about."

Since being elected to the Senate only four years ago, Brown has been a vocal leader in fighting for tougher laws for sex offenders. He has introduced bold legislation that has been used as a model in cities throughout Massachusetts and the country and has received tremendous bipartisan support.

As a member of the Education Committee, he has been at the forefront of reforming the outdated school funding formula, as well as the formula that reimburses communities for school building construction and renovation. As co-chair of the legislature's Metco Caucus, he has worked to expand educational opportunites and funding for all Massachusetts students.

Brown has been lauded by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) and the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) for his relentless work to improve the economy of the state and to keep jobs from leaving the region. He serves as a member of the Legislature's BioTech Caucus, and on the executive board of the 495/Metrowest Coridor Partnership, a coalition dedicated to strengthening the technology sector in the area.

As a founding member of the Regional Transportation Authority Caucus, he has worked across party and geographic lines to develop long range strategies for the region's transportation and infrastructure needs.

Senator Brown has been a consistent watchdog for wasteful spending and unncecessary bureaucracy. He has been supported by Citizens for Limited Taxation & Government for refusing to raise taxes on the working men and women of the Commonwealth.

He has sponsored legislation to reform the "40B" housing laws that have devastated many of our communities. He has voted to expand the senior circuit breaker tax credit to help our elders afford to stay in their homes.

As a member of the Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, and a member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Veterans, Sentor Brown has been a leader in pushing for measures to see that Massachusetts veterans get the benefits and services that they have earned. In 2006, Brown authored the landmark law that will identify the Commonwealth's returning veterans so that they will not fall through the cracks and be denied the assistance available to them.

Brown is also a passionate advocate for the physically and mentally challenged. He has pushed for legislation aimed at keeping our loved ones in comfortable surroundings so that they can be happy and productive members of our community.

In 2005, Brown filed an amendment to the legislature's Stem Cell Bill that passed unanimously. It created a cutting edge Umbilical Cord Blood and Placental Tissue Bank at the UMass Memorial Medical Center. Cord blood and tissue donated by new mothers will be used for the collection of adult stem cells for research and treatment here in the Commonwealth.

As a committed environmentalist, Senator Brown has sponsored legislation to promote recycling initiatives, alternative energy vehicles and energy efficient appliances and ban hazardous substances. Brown's legislative agenda is intended to create a cleaner environment and a future of independence from fossil fuels and foreign sources.

Senator Brown is particularly committed to providing first rate constituent service to the people of his district. Brown and his staff work hard to assist residents in solving any and all problems they may encounter in a friendly and timely manner. Senator Brown regularly visits the schools and senior centers in each of the 12 towns in his district, holds regular district office hours, and tapes an informative public service television program for local access cable.

After being elected to three terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Brown was elected to the Senate in a special election in March of 2004 and again in November of 2004. He was unopposed for reelection to a second term in November of 2006.

Brown is a graduate of Tufts University and Boston College Law School. He is a Lt. Colonel in the Massachusetts National Guard, currently serving with the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

Senator Brown resides in Wrentham with his wife, Gail Huff, and their two daughters, Ayla and Arianna.
