BROWN ANNOUNCES SENATE TO BROADCAST LIVE ON THE INTERNET
Public can log on and watch the Massachusetts Senate’s formal sessions
BOSTON, MA – Senator Scott Brown has announced that as of January 2nd 2008, those interested can now watch the Senate’s formal sessions through a live webcast on the Internet. With this new tool, the public will be able to watch session in real time, and will also be able to view archived sessions.
Webcasts of the Senate can be accessed through the General Court’s website at http://www.mass.gov/legis/ or through www.masslegislature.tv. Captioning will be available on each webcast.
“Since many constituents do not have the time to come to Boston and attend each formal session, webcasting our deliberations will give them the opportunity to view and experience our legislative process in a different and effortless way,” said Brown. “With webcasts, constituents can now feel more involved in the government.”
Previously, legislative sessions could be seen on “Gravel to Gravel,” a program on public television that was discontinued because of funding. A recent commission established by the senate agreed to re-establish the live feed via a less costing web camera. The House of Representatives began this practice in early 2007. Both the House and Senate have continuously made the sessions available on closed circuit television in the State House only.
